Reporting to the General Counsel, the Law Clerk/Intern will assist attorneys in addressing complex and diverse legal matters affecting the Archdiocese (which includes the Central Pastoral Administration and its departments, as well as individual parishes, schools, and ministries) to ensure legal compliance and identify and reduce risk. The Law Clerk/Intern will be expected to perform legal research and assist with legal matters in areas such as contracts, property, land use, religious liberty, corporations, employment, tax, non-profit organizations, education and schools, estates, immigration, public policy, and other areas of the law.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist with legal projects related to parish and Archdiocesan real property matters
- Conduct legal research and analysis, including research of laws, regulations, public records, databases, and governmental filing requirements
- Perform initial reviews of contracts between Archdiocesan entities and vendors as well as contracts and documents related to real property transactions and other legal matters submitted to the Office of the General Counsel
- Assist with management of legal databases and documents
- Analyze and assist with preparing responses to subpoenas and records requests
- Assist attorneys in working with parishes and other departments on legal issues impacting their ministries
- Research and analyze legal issues on a variety of matters, and assist with preparing related documents
- Work with attorneys to prepare and submit governmental filings related to real property, corporate compliance, and/or tax-exempt status
- Perform other related duties as assigned
