TITLE: Coordinator/Director of Religious Education
REPORTS TO: Pastor/Diocesan Pastoral Associate
HOURS: Full-time Salary
PRIMARY OBJECTIVE:
The Coordinator of Religious Education oversees and administers the parish’s comprehensive
religious education and faith formation programs for children and families.
COORDINATOR OF RELIGIOUS EDUCATION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Program Administration & Leadership
• Administer, design, develop, direct, communicate, and evaluate the Parish Religious
Education Program serving approximately 300+ parish children attending parish schools,
public schools, and non-Catholic private schools.
• Oversee the Religious Education Program for grades Kindergarten through 8 in
accordance with the guidelines of the Office for Catechetical Formation of the Diocese of
Youngstown.
• Direct the Children’s Catechumenate Program, supervise Vacation Bible School (VBS),
and coordinate Children’s Liturgy of the Word ministers and schedules.
• Collaborate with parish staff on Adult Faith Formation initiatives, including OCIA facilitation.
• Serve as a member of the parish staff by participating in staff meetings and parish
functions.
Sacramental Preparation & Records
• Coordinate & facilitate sacramental preparation for Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, and
Confirmation.
• Maintain accurate student/family information within the Parish Database System.
• Communicate with parish secretaries regarding the data entry into parish sacramental records
in a timely manner.
• Assist children and families who are not up to date with their sacraments.
Staff & Volunteer Management
• Recruit, orient, train, and provide ongoing spiritual and professional development for catechists,
aides, substitutes, musicians, office staff, and volunteers involved in:
• Children Religious Education classes
• Children’s Liturgy of the Word
• Vacation Bible School
• Retreats and liturgical celebrations
• Sacramental Preparation
Safe Environment Compliance
• Ensure compliance with all Safe Environment requirements, diocesan policies, and
mandates through the Office for Child and Youth Protection for all staff and volunteers
associated with the Religious Education Program.
Communication & Collaboration
• Maintain regular communication with the Pastor through meetings, email, phone, and text
regarding parish religious education programs and sacramental preparation.
• Serve as a resource person to the principal and faculty of St. Charles School.
• Support and uphold all parish and diocesan policies and guidelines.
• Work in collaboration with other members of staff and participate in various parish
functions.
Budget & Stewardship
• Develop and oversee the Religious Education budget.
• Submit a comprehensive annual budget to the Pastor.
• Seek donations and additional resources to support and expand faith formation
opportunities.
Qualifications
• Possess an appropriate educational degree or be willing to pursue educational
requirements necessary to meet diocesan standards.
• Meet the qualifications for Directors/Coordinators of Religious Education as outlined in
diocesan guidelines.
• Demonstrate strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Ability to prioritize responsibilities, remain flexible, and maintain confidentiality.
• Willingness to share personal faith and ministerial insight in service to the parish
community.
