Job Summary
A Substitute Teacher is responsible for teaching and supervising students in the absence of the regular teacher. They must follow lesson plans, manage classroom behavior, and ensure the safety and well-being of students. The substitute teacher helps maintain continuity in the educational process and may work across various grade levels and subject areas.
Job Responsibilities
Instruction and Lesson Delivery
- Implement lesson plans and instructional activities provided by the classroom teacher or school administration.
- Deliver engaging and effective instruction using appropriate teaching materials, technology, and classroom resources.
- Modify instructional approaches and activities as needed to accommodate diverse learning styles and student needs.
Classroom Management
- Maintain a safe, organized, respectful, and productive learning environment.
- Enforce school policies, procedures, and classroom expectations consistently and fairly.
- Manage student behavior effectively and address classroom disruptions in a professional manner.
Student Support and Engagement
- Foster active student participation and engagement in learning activities.
- Provide guidance, clarification, and academic support to help students understand lesson content and complete assignments.
- Encourage positive student interactions and contribute to a supportive classroom culture.
Assessment and Documentation
- Monitor student progress and participation throughout instructional activities.
- Administer quizzes, tests, and other assessments as directed.
- Document attendance, completed assignments, and relevant classroom observations, and submit required reports to the regular teacher or school administration.
Communication and Collaboration
- Communicate professionally and effectively with students, teachers, administrators, and other school personnel.
- Report student concerns, behavioral issues, accidents, or other significant incidents to the appropriate school staff in a timely manner.
- Collaborate with school personnel to support student success and maintain continuity of instruction.
Student Safety and Well-Being
- Ensure the physical, emotional, and social well-being of students throughout the school day.
- Follow all school health, safety, security, and emergency procedures.
- Respond appropriately to emergencies and maintain a secure learning environment at all times.
Job Requirements
• Education: High school diploma required; a Bachelor's degree in education or a related field preferred.
• Licensing/Certification: A teaching certification or substitute teacher permit may be required.
• Experience: Prior teaching or classroom experience preferred but not always required.
• Skills: • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage classroom behavior effectively.
• Flexibility and adaptability to work in different educational settings.
• Basic understanding of classroom technology and instructional tools.
