Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Raleigh has served North Carolina for over 70 years, advancing human dignity and strengthening families through food security, disaster services, immigration legal services and crisis assistance. In the Cape Fear region, we serve five counties by addressing hunger, poverty, and disaster vulnerability. This VISTA position is based in Wilmington, NC, a vibrant coastal community known for its historic downtown, beaches, and strong sense of service. Members enjoy access to ocean and river recreation, a walkable riverfront, and opportunities to explore neighboring rural counties while supporting meaningful community work. The VISTA Volunteer Coordinator will focus on capacity-building, by designing the systems that power volunteer engagement across the region. Members will build recruitment strategies, create onboarding and training systems, develop volunteer tools and SOPs, coordinate regional disaster-readiness trainings, track engagement data, and strengthen partnerships that support food access and disaster response. We’re seeking someone with positive energy, initiative, and strong relationship-building skills. Ideal candidates are organized, adaptable, and excited to build sustainable systems. Experience in communications, public speaking, training coordination, data organization, or community outreach is helpful but not required. Why join this project? You’ll gain hands-on experience in nonprofit capacity building, systems development, volunteer management, and disaster preparedness while working with a collaborative, mission-driven team. The role offers opportunities to travel throughout the Cape Fear region, engage with programs, and see the real impact of your work at a community scale. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country.
