The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland is seeking an experienced Accounting Supervisor to lead Chancery Accounting Services and support the financial operations of parishes, schools, and cemeteries throughout the Diocese.

Essential Responsibilities:
Leadership and Supervision
• Supervise four (4) bookkeeping staff located at the Chancery and five (5) remote employees.
• Provide training, guidance, workflow coordination, and performance oversight.
• Ensure consistency and adherence to accounting procedures and best practices.
Accounting and Financial Management
• Assist with monthly closing processes for Chancery Accounting Services clients.
• Prepare and review monthly financial reports.
• Review accounting records and prepare or review journal entries.
• Review and approve accounts payable payment requests and ACH transactions.
• Reconcile diocesan bank accounts, investment accounts, receivables, assessments, and other assigned balance sheet accounts.
Parish and Diocesan Support
• Complete quarterly financial reviews of parishes, schools, and cemeteries within established timelines.
• Provide accounting guidance and support to parish and diocesan bookkeepers.
• Assist with annual parish, school, cemetery, and diocesan audits.
• Maintain diocesan contact records for pastors, business managers, and bookkeepers.
• Serve as backup support for payroll processing as needed.
Systems and Process Improvement
• Administer the Diocese's Amazon Business account, including approvals, access management, and reconciliations.
• Support the Diocese's Martus budgeting software, including training and troubleshooting.
• Identify opportunities to improve efficiency, internal controls, and financial processes.
• Perform other duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or related field required.
• Minimum five years of progressively responsible accounting experience.
• Prior supervisory experience required.
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office and intermediate Excel skills.
• Experience in public accounting, auditing, nonprofit accounting, or Sage Intacct is preferred.
• CPA and/or Master's degree preferred.
• An active, practicing Catholic is preferred.
