Job Description
The Assistant Director of Undergraduate Campus Ministry is responsible for the supervision and oversight of Campus Ministry’s areas specific to of the spiritual formation and accompaniment of undergraduate students inspired by Creighton’s Jesuit tradition and Ignatian identity. They are responsible for collaborating with key staff members to identify ways to intentionally deepen Ignatian formation into new and existing offerings.
The Assistant Director supervises four staff members whose areas focus on retreats, small faith-sharing groups, faith formation, and community life. The Assistant Director supports these staff members in their programming and helps identify areas for growth and outreach to Creighton undergraduate students. Additionally, they are directly responsible for implementation of some ministerial programming.
The Assistant Director also handles various administrative tasks. These include coordinating Campus Ministry communication efforts such as social media and video reflection series. As part of this work, they will collaborate with professional and student staff to build timelines for postings and advertisements. Additionally, they will be responsible for coordinating several Campus Ministry events and managing some internal office and university tasks.
The Assistant Director serves as a pastoral presence to students. They also assist in an on-call capacity when the Director is unavailable, acting as the second in line to collaborate with colleagues to support students in moments of crisis.
The Assistant Director reports directly to the Director of Campus Ministry.
Essential Functions
- Program development, enrichment, and growth
- Supervision of select staff members
- Oversight of communications
- Administrative tasks – Budgeting, paperwork; logistics in support of programming and development of programming
- Provide pastoral ministry to students
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in theology, divinity, pastoral studies, ministry, or related required.
- 4-6 years of related work experience required; equivalent combination of work, practicum experience at an accredited institution will be considered.
- Need to be familiar with the Jesuit and Ignatian tradition, and the Spiritual Exercises
- Supervisory experience preferred
Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities
- Knowledge of Catholic theology, Ignatian spirituality, and the Jesuit mission of higher education.
- Ability to support students of all faiths and connect them with appropriate resources.
- Understanding of social media platforms and current trends of communication engagement.
- Demonstrated ability to manage logistics, partnerships, and communications for events and programs.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a pastoral presence; adept in fostering relationships.
- Possess an understanding of the development and needs of college students.
- Effective written and verbal communicator across diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and act as a self-starter with little direction.
- Proven ability to conceptualize, plan, and execute program offerings.
- Demonstrated ability to exercise prudence and honor confidentiality.
