The Diocese of Madison acknowledges that the Catholic School teacher is vital to the educational mission of the Church. The teacher not only stimulates the acquisition of knowledge and understanding, but serves as a consistent, joyful and living witness to the teachings of Christ. Saint John Viannay School is looking for a creative and enthusiastic person to serve as the full time 2nd Grade teacher. The 2nd grade classroom at Saint John Vianney School is a comprehensive program addressing and demonstrating the appropriate intellectual, social, emotional, and spiritual development of students. It promotes the development of knowledge in all core academic areas for all students with an emphasis on enrichment, individual work skills, and the importance of working together as a collaborative group. This position is hired and evaluated by the principal.
This position requires but is not limited to the following duties:
*Acting as a witness to Gospel values by modeling the teachings of the Catholic Church and preparing students for their sacramental year.
*Planning for instruction with logically sequenced objectives and providing appropriate material and resources for students to engage in learning
*Communicating clear objectives for all learning activities and creating projects to enhance learning opportunities
*Using effective instructional methods/models according to professional standard practice
*Using varied assessment tools to perform both formative and summative assessments
*Demonstrating a willingness to respond to individual learning needs through differentiated instruction and centers-based learning
*Preparing lesson plans which include providing students with the opportunity to become critical thinkers, enthusiastic readers, skillful researchers, and ethical users of information while providing authentic, real world opportunities to engage with information and content learned
*Practicing positive, consistent discipline in the management of the classroom
*Establishing and maintaining standards of student behavior for a productive learning environment
*Developing and maintaining a classroom environment appropriate for all learners, within the limits of available resources, and consistent with current best practices in education and all content areas that promotes a love of reading and lifelong learning
*Communicating and collaborating with parents, staff, and administration for optimal student progress regarding academic, behavioral, or safety concerns
*Maintaining current and accurate records according to school policy
*Demonstrating professionalism in conduct, demeanor, and work habits
*Demonstrating commitment to remaining current in professional practices and developments, informational technologies, and educational research applicable to a 2nd grade classroom *Attending and participating in Faculty Meetings, Diocesan Meetings, Professional Development Days, Faculty Committees, etc.
