Since 1923, Commonwealth Catholic Charities (CCC) has provided life-changing human services to vulnerable individuals and families throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. CCC offers quality and compassionate human services to all people, especially the most vulnerable, regardless of faith. Since 2010, CCC has provided comprehensive resettlement and immigration services to refugee newcomers in the Greater Richmond, Roanoke, and Newport News regions. This VISTA position will support CCC’s efforts to strengthen community engagement and increase awareness of our refugee and immigrant program throughout the Richmond area. The VISTA will help expand volunteer participation, support in-kind donation efforts, and assist with outreach activities and mission-focused events that educate and engage the community. This role will also help connect community talent and resources to program priorities, increasing CCC’s capacity to serve refugees and immigrants while strengthening long-term volunteer, donor, and advocate engagement. Ideal candidates are organized, adaptable, and interested in community outreach, volunteer engagement, and refugee and immigrant services. Strong communication and relationship-building skills are helpful, along with an interest in nonprofit and community-based work. This VISTA position is a part of Catholic Charities USA’s Family Strengthening Program, a national intermediary project. As a member, you will meet virtually with VISTA Leaders and other VISTAs serving throughout the country, all focused on alleviating poverty. This VISTA position is located in Richmond, VA, a multicultural, vibrant, and thriving city. Richmond offers a mix of history and urban cool with a renowned foodie culture, museums, white water rafting, and other unique attractions. Richmond is a welcoming city home to diverse people from every background, ideology, and ability. The city is connected to the suburbs by public transportation but remains mainly car-centric.

Member Duties : The VISTA member will support Commonwealth Catholic Charities’ refugee resettlement program through community outreach, volunteer engagement, and donation initiatives that help welcome and support newcomers in the Richmond area. The member will help strengthen volunteer recruitment and retention efforts by creating outreach messaging, reconnecting with past volunteers and former clients, and helping build an alumni group that can support current refugee families and agency goals. The VISTA will also support community presentations, mission-focused events, partnership building, and public awareness efforts that educate and engage the community in the resettlement process. In addition, the member will help coordinate donation drives with faith communities, schools, civic groups, and other community partners to increase access to essential resources for refugee families.
