Position Overview

The Associate Director for Communications and Development leads all fundraising and advancement efforts for St. Stephen of Hungary School. This is a hands-on, relationship-driven role for a development professional who is excited to help build and grow a comprehensive advancement program in partnership with the Principal, faculty and staff, parents, and the broader school community.

With a focus on strengthening the Annual Fund, expanding donor participation, and building sustainable systems and processes, the Associate Director will play a key role in shaping the future of philanthropy at SSHS. The Associate Director will also work closely with highly engaged parent committees, particularly around special events, cultivating a collaborative, inclusive culture of giving and volunteer leadership.

The Associate Director reports to the Principal and is a member of the school’s leadership team.

Key Responsibilities

Fundraising & Program Development

• Partner with the Principal to design and implement a comprehensive annual advancement plan aligned with the school’s mission, priorities, and budget.

• Build and grow the school’s fundraising program, with particular emphasis on strengthening the Annual Fund, increasing parent, alumni, and community participation, and developing a pipeline for leadership and major gifts.

• Establish and refine systems, timelines, and tools to support donor tracking, stewardship, and reporting. Responsible for generating donor appreciation letters.

• Manage a portfolio of donors and prospects, developing thoughtful strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.

• Prepare or oversee preparation of donor materials, appeals, grant applications, and proposals in

collaboration with school leadership and volunteers.

• Track fundraising progress against goals and provide clear, regular reporting to the Principal.

• Cultivate and maintain the alumni database.

• Help foster a joyful and inclusive culture of philanthropy that reflects the close-knit, mission-driven SSHS community.

Parent Engagement & Volunteer Leadership

• Serve as a primary staff liaison to parent committees involved in fundraising and special events (e.g., golf outing, Sketch Club!, Grandparents’ Day, Auction, Graduation, and additional community events).

• Partner with parent leaders to plan, execute, and evaluate fundraising events, ensuring strong volunteer engagement and clear roles and expectations.

• Support and empower parent volunteers with tools, timelines, messaging, and follow-up needed for success.

• Help cultivate parent leaders as ambassadors for the school and its fundraising efforts.

Communications & Storytelling

• Oversee advancement communications to ensure consistent, compelling messaging across donor appeals, newsletters, event materials, posters, and digital platforms.

• Provide strategic oversight of advancement-related content on the school’s website and social media platforms, ensuring alignment with fundraising goals, events, and stewardship efforts.

• Support alignment between fundraising efforts and broader school communications.

Operations & Management

• Manage the advancement budget and track revenue against projections.

• Oversee the donor database. Ensure accurate data entry, reporting, and effective use for fundraising and stewardship.

• Work collaboratively with the Business Office to ensure timely gift processing, reconciliation, and reporting.

• Create and maintain effective systems, procedures, and internal controls to support a growing advancement program.

• Participate in the school community with duties (e.g., monitor student lunch) built into the weekly schedule.

Position Details

Status: Full-time (40 hours/week), twelve-month, salaried, exempt

Schedule: Occasional evening and weekend responsibilities

Compensation: Salary commensurate with experience; competitive benefits package

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required.

• Minimum of 3–5 years of professional fundraising or advancement experience.

• Experience in a Catholic school, independent school, or education-focused nonprofit strongly preferred.

• Demonstrated interest in building and growing fundraising programs and systems.

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to build trust and relationships with parents, volunteers, donors, and colleagues.

• Experience working with volunteers and parent-led committees.

• Organized, proactive, and comfortable managing multiple priorities in a dynamic environment.

• Commitment to the mission and values of Catholic education and community-centered philanthropy.
