Our Lady of Peace Catholic School is seeking a collaborative, organized, and student-centered Director of Student Support and Instruction to support teachers, students, and families in the school's daily life. This position plays an important leadership role in helping teachers respond to student needs, coordinating student support systems, managing assessment logistics, and strengthening elementary literacy instruction.
The Director of Student Support and Instruction will work closely with the School Principal and teaching staff to support a positive, safe, faith-filled, and academically strong school environment.
Position Summary
The Director of Student Support and Instruction is primarily responsible for supporting teachers and students through day-to-day problem-solving, student support coordination, special education liaison work, assessment logistics, and literacy coaching. This person will serve as a key support for teachers, helping respond to classroom needs, coordinate services, and use data to improve student learning.
This position is ideal for an educator who is relational, organized, calm under pressure, instructionally strong, and committed to helping both students and teachers succeed.
Primary Responsibilities
Teacher Support and Classroom Problem-Solving
- Serve as a primary support person for teachers during the school day.
- Respond to teacher needs related to student behavior, academic concerns, classroom routines, and student support.
- Collaborate with teachers to identify student needs and develop practical next steps.
- Help teachers implement strategies that support student engagement, learning, and classroom culture.
- Support teachers in communicating with families about student concerns when appropriate.
- Work alongside teachers to strengthen classroom systems and student support practices.
Student Support
- Provide direct support to students who need academic, behavioral, social, or emotional assistance.
- Help create and maintain a positive, respectful, and safe school culture.
- Assist with student behavior concerns using a calm, consistent, and restorative approach.
- Work with teachers and families to develop student support plans as needed.
- Monitor student progress and help coordinate follow-up supports.
- Serve as a visible, trusted, and supportive presence for students throughout the school day.
IEP Coordination and Minneapolis Public Schools Liaison
- Serve as the school’s primary liaison with Minneapolis Public Schools regarding IEPs, evaluations, and special education services.
- Coordinate communication among families, teachers, Minneapolis Public Schools staff, and service providers.
- Help ensure that teachers understand and implement student accommodations and supports.
- Attend IEP meetings, evaluation meetings, and student support meetings as needed.
- Maintain organized systems for tracking IEP-related communication, documentation, services, and follow-up.
- Support teachers in understanding student plans and adjusting classroom practices accordingly.
NWEA and aimsweb Testing Leadership
- Lead logistics for NWEA testing, including rostering, scheduling, communication, administration support, and troubleshooting.
- Coordinate aimsweb testing and progress monitoring logistics.
- Support teachers in understanding assessment expectations, timelines, and procedures.
- Organize and help analyze assessment data to identify student needs.
- Assist teachers in using NWEA and aimsweb results to guide instruction, intervention, and student support.
- Help maintain school-wide systems for tracking academic growth and intervention needs.
Elementary Literacy Coaching
- Serve as a literacy coach for elementary teachers.
- Support teachers in planning and delivering effective literacy instruction.
- Help review reading data and identify students who need additional support.
- Collaborate with teachers to plan interventions and monitor student progress.
- Provide coaching, resources, and instructional guidance connected to reading development.
- Support school-wide efforts to strengthen literacy outcomes.
Collaboration with the Principal
- Meet regularly with the School Principal to discuss teacher needs, student support, assessment data, and school priorities.
- Assist the Principal with school-wide student support systems and academic initiatives.
- Provide input on student concerns, intervention needs, and teacher support priorities.
- Help communicate with families when additional support or problem-solving is needed.
- Take on additional responsibilities as assigned by the Principal.
