Director of Community & Student Leadership
The Director of Community is an innovative, dynamic, culturally competent educator who collaborates with members of the Student Life Team at La Salle to support student vision, amplify student voice, provide leadership development for students and facilitate the planning of equitable and engaging programs sponsored by the Student Life program. The Director of Community works to generate positive school pride, culture, and enthusiasm for the core values and mission of the school. The Director of Community is a full-time position and includes some evening, weekend and overnight responsibilities. This position includes teaching the yearbook course and overseeing the development and production of the school yearbook.
Job Summary
The Director of Community is an integral, contributing, and positive member of the Lasallian Student Life Team. The Student Life Team is under the direction of the Vice Principal of Student LIfe, collaborates directly with the Director of Inclusion and often with the Office of Lasallian Ministry.
The Director of Community works with the Student Life Team to build a welcoming, inclusive and equitable school community and culture, where all students feel a sense of celebration, connection and belonging. The Student Life Team shares responsibility for managing the Student Life Center and creating a space where students can work, collaborate, and develop programming that supports the needs and vision of all students.
The Director of Community advises the Student Council, providing mentorship and guidance to student officers as they develop skills and strategies for effective leadership. As student leaders design programming opportunities for the La Salle community, the Director of Community will support the promotion, financing, organization and realization of student events, dances, lunch time activities, assemblies and programs. The Director of Community will also work with clubs, affinity groups and co-curricular activities to optimize the potential for student engagement and involvement in the Lasallian community life. The Director of Community will provide mentoring, structure, and training to club leaders and moderators to ensure the effectiveness of student programming.
In addition to collaborating with the Student Life Team and supporting the work of the Student Council, the Director of Community will develop school-wide leadership programming to provide students opportunities to grow, develop confidence and eventually lead others in formal and informal spaces.

SHARED STUDENT LIFE TEAM RESPONSIBILITIES
The Director of Community, in collaboration with the Student Life Team:
- Ensures that all student programming maintains a Lasallian, mission-driven focus
- Participates in the annual Lasallian Activities Director meeting with the district
- Attends and participates in Student Life Team meetings
- Provides consistent presence and supervision in the Student Life Center
- Communicates regularly with the La Salle community about upcoming events and programs
DIRECTOR OF COMMUNITY PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES
In consultation with the Vice Principal of Student Life and with support from the Student Life Team, the Director of Community position includes the following responsibilities:
- Teach the Leadership course (1.0) and Foundations of Leadership (.5 / fall semester) and facilitate leadership of Student Council projects
- Develop and lead 9th grade orientation program to provide experiences of community and connection to incoming students
- Facilitate the planning and implementation of dances, assemblies, Homecoming, spirit weeks, Prom, Founders Week, and other specific community focused events
- Provide oversight on organization, structure, and leadership of student clubs; promote club engagement
- Motivate and recruit students to get involved in Student Life and Leadership activities
- Collaborate with Advancement Office on student fundraisers
- Develop new and innovative opportunities for student involvement, the expression of student voice and the promotion of student leadership
- Collaborate with the Director of Inclusion to support heritage months and cultural celebrations throughout the school year
- Schedule and maintain a calendar of Student Life events
- Manage set up for all Student Council sponsored events
- Communicate with the faculty, staff and parents regarding Community events
- Reflect on and evaluate the success of events with student leaders
- Develop and manage a budget for student activities and programming
- Serve as a resource for co-curricular community building activities
- Assure proper supervision and student documentation for community events
- Oversee and organize Student Council elections and appointment of student government officers
- Serve as a chaperone and facilitate student participation in a one-week Lasallian Student Leadership conference in July
Additional Student Leadership Development Responsibilities
- Develop curriculum for Leadership courses that includes individual skill development along with schoolwide programming
- Teach one section of Yearbook
- Provide students with specific leadership training and support in developing leadership skills
- Provide annual training for club and affinity group leaders on program development
- Collaborate with Athletic Department on school spirit programming
- Collaborate with Alumni Association and Director of Alumni Giving on annual career exploration and connection events, including student fundraiser
- Support Vice Principal of Student Life on programming to support student well-being, mental health, and personal interests
- Build partnerships with area schools and businesses to support student leadership and programming
QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor's degree. Masters degree preferred
- Dedication to the mission and philosophy of La Salle Catholic College Prep
- Knowledge and experience applying principles, best practices, and equitable methods of program administration and development
- Experience communicating clearly, logically and persuasively both verbally and in writing with attention to detail
- Experience working energetically and enthusiastically with young people and nurturing the formation and growth of adolescents
- Experience in leadership development of young people
- Experience establishing and maintaining effective collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders
- Strategic-thinking skills and experience designing and implementing innovative, effective and culturally responsive programs
- Experience and ability applying sound creative problem-solving techniques to resolve difficult program issues and challenges
- Organized, detail-oriented, resourceful and able to manage multiple projects simultaneously under varying deadlines
- Flexibility, sensitivity and diplomacy and the outstanding interpersonal skills necessary to work collaboratively with multiple constituencies
- Project management skills in implementing complex programs and handling a budget
