Background
Mount Carmel High School (MCHS), founded in 1900 under the leadership of the Carmelites, is Chicago’s premier college preparatory school for young men. It is located just south of the Museum of Science and Industry, the University of Chicago, and future Obama Presidential Center. Mount Carmel’s diverse student body represents students from over 220 grade schools and 100 different zip codes across Chicagoland and Northwest Indiana; it is considered one of the best Catholic high schools in Illinois.
Mount Carmel’s mission of “Building Character for a Lifetime” educates young men spiritually, intellectually, socially, and morally, and enables students to progress in these areas according to their abilities, producing a reflective critical-thinking adults.

Teaching full time at Mount Carmel consists of 5 classes and all teachers are strongly encouraged to moderate/co-moderate a club or activity.
Teaching Candidates Must Possess The Following
- Degree in secondary education (or will obtain by July 1, 2026)
- Valid teaching license (or will obtain by July 1, 2026)
Illinois Certification Preferred But Not Required.
- Virtus Training Certification (or completed within the first 90 days of employment at Mount Carmel).
- Submit to a Illinois State Background Check with fingerprinting
Experience teaching Advanced Placement (AP) courses preferred but not required.
Provide a positive environment that encourages students to be engaged in the learning process, including
active and
responsible use of technology. Implements instructional techniques that contribute to an atmosphere where our young men are engaged in meaningful learning experiences. Identifies, selects, and modifies instructional resources to meet the needs of the students with varying backgrounds, learning styles, and special needs. Uses and analyzes available data to drive instructional practices. Maintains effective, efficient, and timely grading procedures. Establishes and maintains cooperative and professional working relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, including the Principal, Department Chair, Campus Ministry, etc. Strong candidates will also be able to fit in with two ongoing initiatives at Mount Carmel: 1:1 learning and cross-curricular instruction.

Position Summary
The Bus Driver has the primary responsibility for ensuring the health, safety and welfare of the students, staff and volunteers during bus transportation. Reliability is key.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
- Pick up and drop off at home or residential bus stop and school
- Transport to field trip destination
- Perform bus safety inspection daily
- Report on all safety concerns to Director of Transportation
- Ensure all bus passengers are safely seated and strapped in
- Observe speed limits and obey road signs
Job Qualifications
- Education – High School diploma
- Experience – Minimum five years driving
- You must hold a valid state driver's license and have a clean driving record
- Occasional coverage for other drivers
- Must be available Monday through Friday for assigned route

Position Description
The Campus Minister serves as a spiritual leader within the school community, fostering the Catholic and Carmelite mission of our school through faith formation, prayer, liturgy, retreats, service opportunities, and pastoral care. The Campus Minister collaborates with administration, faculty, students, parents, and our larger community to cultivate a vibrant culture of prayer, community and service, our Carmelie Charism, that supports the spiritual growth of all members of the school community.
Responsibilities
Essential Responsibilities
Faith Formation
- Develop and implement opportunities for student faith formation that encourage personal discipleship, prayer, sacramental participation, and leadership in the Catholic faith.
- Coordinate and support adult faith formation for faculty and staff through retreats, prayer experiences, professional development, and spiritual enrichment opportunities.
- Collaborate with theology teachers and administration to support the integration of Catholic and Carmelite identity throughout school life.
- Facilitate small groups, prayer experiences, and spiritual mentoring opportunities for students, new faculty members, and the faculty as a whole.
Retreat Ministry
- Plan, organize, and oversee all aspects of the school’s retreat program, with particular emphasis on Kairos retreats, both senior and junior.
- Recruit, train, and supervise student and adult retreat leaders.
- Coordinate retreat logistics, including scheduling, facilities, budgets, transportation, registration, and communication with families.
- Lead the staffing, preparation, execution, and evaluation of Kairos retreats and follow-up programming.
- Ensure retreat experiences align with the mission, values, and pastoral goals of Mount Carmel High School.
Liturgy and Prayer
- Coordinate with our Director of Mission on school liturgies, prayer services, reconciliation opportunities, and special religious celebrations.
- Work closely with our Director of Mission, all clergy, liturgy teams, musicians, and student leaders to create meaningful worship experiences.
- Promote student involvement in liturgical ministries and prayer leadership.
Service and Outreach
- Coordinate service-learning and outreach initiatives that connect faith with action, both local and beyond the Chicago/ NWI Metropolitan area.
- Foster partnerships with local parishes, diocesan ministries, and community organizations.
- Encourage student participation in Christian service and social justice opportunities, in and around Mount Carmel, the city of Chicago, surrounding suburbs, and Northwest Indiana.
Pastoral Care and Community Building
- Provide pastoral support and spiritual guidance to students, faculty, and families.
- Assist in responding to community needs during times of crisis, loss, or celebration.
- Promote a welcoming and inclusive faith community rooted in Gospel values.
Leadership and Collaboration
- Serve as a member of the school’s mission and ministry team.
- Collaborate with our administration, Director of Mission, faculty, student organizations, and parents to advance the Catholic mission of the school.
- Manage ministry budgets, calendars, communications, and program assessment.
- Maintain compliance with Carmelite and Archdiocesan policies and requirements related to ministry and retreats.
Qualifications
- Practicing Catholic in good standing with a strong commitment to the teachings and mission of the Catholic Church.
- Bachelor’s degree required; degree in Theology, Religious Studies, Pastoral Ministry, Education, or related field preferred.
- Experience in youth ministry, campus ministry, retreat leadership, or Catholic education preferred.
- Strong organizational, communication, leadership, and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to inspire and engage both adolescents and adults in faith formation and spiritual growth.
