Role Description This is a full-time role located in Rainier Beach in Seattle, WA. The counselor supports student academic and SEL progress. The counselor collaborates with teachers, administrators, and parents to monitor student well-being, address social-emotional needs, and connect students with appropriate resources. The role also involves maintaining accurate student records, contributing to school-wide initiatives, and promoting the mission and values of Cristo Rey Jesuit Seattle.
Responsibilities
- Build Student Support Systems to support the entire community’s effort to Care for the Whole Person
• Build and serve as a member of the Student Success Team on campus and provide support and recommendations for students as needed. Coordinate and support interventions, monitor progress, and respond to emerging student needs.
• Collaborate closely with Dean of Students and Instructional Leadership Team to align student support, behavior, and academic interventions.
• Build out and strengthen the school’s MTSS structures to ensure coordinated, data-informed support for students across tiers.
• Deliver instruction that proactively enhances awareness of mental health; promotes positive, healthy behaviors; and seeks to remove the stigma associated with mental health issues
• Use data to develop and inform the school counseling program and evaluate the program’s impact on the school’s instructional goals.
• Advocate for ethical use of valid and reliable universal screening instruments with concerns for cultural sensitivity and bias
• Attend grade-level meetings to identify student needs, share insights, and align supports across teams.
• Support with Equitable Service Plans through intake meetings with families, collaboration and communication with teachers, and for exams.
Qualifications
- Demonstrated skills in student counseling, including social-emotional and academic support for high school students.
- Experience or training in career counseling and college readiness guidance for high school students.
- Knowledge of academic advising practices, including course planning, graduation requirements, and postsecondary pathways.
- Background in education or a related field, with an understanding of secondary school environments and diverse learner needs.
- Relevant degree (e.g., School Counseling, Psychology, Education) and appropriate counseling or teaching certification, as required by state regulations.
- Strong communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust with students, families, and staff.
- Commitment to educational equity and serving students from limited economic backgrounds; familiarity with Jesuit or faith-based school settings is beneficial.
- Ability to manage confidential information responsibly and use student data to inform counseling and support strategies.
