Position Summary
St. John the Baptist Diocesan High School seeks a dynamic, student-centered educational leader to serve as Dean of Discipline & Guidance. This administrative position provides day-to-day leadership in the areas of student discipline, school culture, and guidance coordination.
The Dean will serve as the primary administrator for student disciplinary matters while partnering closely with the Principal, the Dean of Student Services, and the Chairperson of the Guidance Department to ensure students receive exceptional academic, social-emotional, college, and career guidance.
The successful candidate will be a visible presence throughout the school, committed to fostering a safe, respectful, faith-filled learning environment and supporting the overall well-being and success of every student.
Primary Responsibilities
Student Discipline & School Culture
• Serve as the first-line administrator for student disciplinary matters and behavioral concerns
• Meet with students and parents regarding disciplinary issues and develop appropriate interventions
• Ensure consistent implementation of the Student Handbook and school policies
• Work collaboratively with the Dean of Student Services and the Principal to ensure consistency in disciplinary practices and student expectations
• Promote restorative practices and positive student behavior while maintaining appropriate accountability
• Maintain discipline records and communicate regularly with faculty and families
• Assist with school supervision, student activities, and campus safety initiatives
Guidance Coordination
• Work collaboratively with the Chairperson of the Guidance Department to support the effective operation of the department.
• Help coordinate the daily work of the Guidance Department to ensure students receive comprehensive academic, college, career, and personal counseling services.
• Facilitate communication among counselors, administration, faculty, students, and parents.
• Monitor student academic and behavioral concerns and coordinate appropriate interventions.
• Assist in implementing counseling initiatives, college planning programs, scheduling support, and student success initiatives.
• Support continuous improvement within the Guidance Department through collaboration, planning, and regular communication.
Administrative Leadership
• Serve as a member of the Administrative Leadership Team.
• Collaborate closely with the Principal and Dean of Student Services on student support initiatives and school operations.
• Assist with school-wide planning, student programs, and other administrative responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
• Master's Degree in School Counseling, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
• Experience in School Counseling or Guidance is required.
• Prior administrative or leadership experience in a secondary school preferred.
• New York State School Building Leader (SBL), School District Leader (SDL), or School Administrator and Supervisor (SAS) certification, or candidates actively pursuing administrative certification, are encouraged to apply.
• Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.

Salary
$75,000-$90,000, commensurate with experience and qualifications
