Job Summary
The Teacher Aide I supports the Lead Teacher in providing a safe, nurturing, faith-centered, and developmentally appropriate learning environment for children enrolled in the Early Childhood Learning Center (ECLC). The Teacher Aide assists with classroom instruction, daily routines, supervision, and implementation of educational activities while fostering each child's academic, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual growth in accordance with Catholic values.
Job Responsibilities
- Assist the Lead Teacher in implementing daily lesson plans, classroom activities, and learning experiences.
- Supervise children during classroom instruction, playground time, meals, rest periods, and transitions to ensure their safety and well-being.
- Prepare classroom materials, learning centers, instructional resources, and activity areas.
- Support children's cognitive, social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development through positive interactions and encouragement.
- Reinforce classroom expectations and positive behavior management strategies.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment in accordance with health and licensing standards.
- Assist children with toileting, handwashing, meals, dressing, and other personal care needs as appropriate for their age and developmental level.
- Participate in classroom prayer, religious instruction, liturgical celebrations, and other faith-based activities that support the mission of Catholic education.
- Communicate respectfully and professionally with children, parents, faculty, and staff.
- Observe and report student concerns, behavioral issues, accidents, illnesses, or developmental observations to the Lead Teacher or ECLC Director.
- Follow all diocesan policies, state licensing regulations, Safe Environment requirements, and health and safety procedures.
- Attend staff meetings, training sessions, and required professional development opportunities.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher or ECLC Director.
Job Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Coursework in early childhood education, child development, or a related field is preferred.
- Previous experience working with young children in a childcare center, preschool, or educational setting is preferred.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Ability to work effectively with preschool-aged children in a nurturing and supportive environment.
- Basic understanding of child development, classroom routines, and positive behavior management.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment.
- Ability to work collaboratively as a member of the Early Childhood Learning Center team.
- Supportive of the mission, philosophy, and values of the Catholic Church and Catholic education.
