General Summary of the Position
The Facilities Director for Christ the King (CTK) oversees the management and operations of all the physical facilities of the church and school, including the buildings, grounds, parking lots, preventive and reactive maintenance, janitorial, safety, security, transportation, and building automation systems. He/she ensures that the facilities are fully operational, safe, clean, and prepared for church services and ministry/school activities. The Facilities Directors oversees and performs maintenance and repairs for the church and school buildings, equipment and property, and acts as church and school representative with outside contractors, vendors, and inspectors.
The ideal candidate has a servant’s heart, is passionate about being a disciple of Jesus Christ, and highly capable of performing facilities and maintenance work. While applicants need not be Catholic, they must be supportive of Catholic Church teaching and strive to not say or do anything that contradicts those teachings. The Facilities Manager regularly interacts with parishioners and must do so with courtesy, grace and tact. This role requires a firm understanding of CTK’s vision and values.
The Facilities Director must be organized and good at managing multiple projects with vendors, volunteers, and staff. In addition, the ideal candidate is great at troubleshooting, researching, investigating, and solving problems related to operations and facilities. The Facilities Director must be extremely proactive to ensure the facilities are properly maintained to avoid larger problems developing. The ideal candidate has a savvy business acumen and is able to read/review and help negotiate agreements and contracts. He/she can perform key tasks independently in a timely manner and enjoys working in a team environment.
This position is a salaried, exempt position reporting to the Business Manager and will require occasional evening and weekend work. The Facilities Director supervises a Maintenance Supervisor, a weekend Maintenance Technician, and the Community Center desk staff.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities of the Position
- Manage all work related to the maintenance and repair of the facilities, including but not limited to proactive, preventive maintenance, building inspections, HVAC, plumbing, electrical, custodial, landscape, waste management, and site security
- Perform weekly walk-through of buildings, equipment, grounds and building systems to ensure safety and ongoing maintenance of buildings and grounds
- Maintain and manage work order system and preventive maintenance program
- Serve as primary contact for facility-related emergencies, which may require evening and weekend work, and for contractors and vendors
- Manage outsourced janitorial/cleaning and landscape services
- Responsible for purchasing and maintaining supplies and equipment
- Act as primary point of contact for IT issues
- Oversee and provide event coordination, including setup and breakdown
- Manage online calendar platform
- Be familiar with and ensure compliance with OSHA regulations and standards
- Update and implement Diocesan Emergency Manual
- Attend annual professional development formation as requested/required
- Supervise and evaluate maintenance personnel
- Schedule and supervise Community Center desk staff
- Perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned
Position Requirements
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Uphold and support the mission, goals, and objectives of CTK and the Pastor
- Work with integrity; demonstrate sound moral and ethical principles
- Adapt to schedule changes and weekend/holiday work as required
- Must read and write English and comprehend instruction manuals
- Possess good interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to make basic written reports regarding proposed or completed repairs
Education and Experience:
- At least five years of hands-on facilities and/or maintenance experience for a large, commercial (non-residential) facility
- Minimum of two years supervisory experience
- Demonstrated knowledge of various building systems and structures, such as mechanical systems, plumbing, electrical, heating, air conditioning, energy conservation, fire alarms, and sprinkler systems
- Ability to maintain systems and/or secure outside contractors to do so
- Technologically adept, particularly with Microsoft Excel, Outlook, and Word, work order systems, building automation systems, etc.
- Current driver’s license required
Special Requirements:
- Requires periods of sitting, typing, and reading from a computer screen
- Requires lifting of up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, and climbing
- Requires walking/inspecting the entire facility each week and as required
- Must complete the Diocese of Dallas Safe Environment Training program, obtain a certificate, and renew the training annually as required
