St. Augustine School is seeking a mission-driven, instructionally skilled, and joyful educator to serve as Assistant Principal for Grades K–4.
Located in downtown Andover, St. Augustine School provides a high-quality Catholic education to over 440 students from PK3 through Grade 8. As part of a planned expansion of our administrative structure, this role brings dedicated instructional and formational leadership to our elementary program. The Assistant Principal for Grades K–4 will serve as a full partner on a three-person administrative team alongside the Principal and the Assistant Principal for Grades 5–8. Each leader holds clearly defined, non-overlapping areas of ownership so that every teacher and student has a dedicated advocate in school leadership.
We are looking for someone who loves young children and takes seriously the particular work of laying the academic, spiritual, and character foundations that shape a child's entire educational journey. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of elementary curriculum and instruction and a genuine alignment with, or eagerness to grow in, the Catholic intellectual tradition, a coach's instinct for developing teachers, and the organizational ability to build the structures that allow a strong elementary program to flourish. They understand that the early years are not merely preparation for what comes next but are formation in their own right. They are a practicing Catholic who sees educational leadership not merely as a profession but as a vocation.

Primary Responsibilities
Faith and Mission
- Implements the mission, philosophy, and goals of St. Augustine School and of Catholic education, promoting Gospel values and upholding the doctrinal teachings of the Catholic Church.
- Models Catholic living through the witness of their life and fosters a culture of faith in the elementary school that is authentic, joyful, and age-appropriate.
- Integrates the core values of Veritas, Unitas, and Caritas into the structures, decisions, and daily life of Grades K–4.
- Participates actively in school-wide faith formation, including Mass, the daily prayer life of the school, and Faculty Faith Formation.
- Helps students grow as disciples of Christ, nurturing the foundational habits of prayer, virtue, and love of God appropriate to early childhood.
Elementary Leadership
- Serves as the primary leader for Grades K–4, cultivating an elementary culture where young learners feel safe, known, joyful, and formed in faith.
- Partners closely with families of elementary students, recognizing that the early years require especially close collaboration between school and home.
- Coordinates student support systems in collaboration with teachers, families, the school counselor, and the Principal to ensure students receive the academic, social, emotional, and spiritual support they need, including those with identified learning needs.
- Leads K–4 traditions, milestones, and community-building initiatives that give shape and meaning to the elementary experience.
- Oversees the day-to-day culture and operations of the elementary program, including student behavior, transitions, and routines.
Instructional Leadership
- Serves as the primary instructional coach and observer for Grades K–4 teachers, conducting regular classroom walkthroughs with a clear instructional focus and delivering timely, specific, and actionable feedback.
- Evaluates teachers in conjunction with the Principal using shared rubrics and a collaborative debrief process.
- Leads the development and ongoing refinement of scope and sequence across K–4 subject areas, drawing on the principles of the Catholic intellectual tradition to build a coherent, well-paced curriculum that is ordered to the formation of the whole child and aligned with state and Archdiocesan standards.
- Partners with teachers and the Principal to plan and protect instructional time, supporting thoughtful scheduling across core subjects in the elementary day.
- Meets regularly with teachers to examine student learning, analyze assessment data (including NWEA MAP, DIBELS, and classroom assessments), and identify instructional priorities.
- Supports the review, adoption, and replacement of instructional materials and educational technology, with attention to alignment with the school's mission and educational philosophy.
- Coordinates data collection and analysis to evaluate the effectiveness of the elementary academic program.
School Leadership
- Serves as a full member of the administrative team, contributing to school-wide strategy, hiring decisions, and institutional planning.
- Affirms parents and guardians as the primary educators of their children and communicates with families with transparency, professionalism, and care.
- Collaborates with the administrative team to organize faculty meetings, team meetings, and professional development that supports both instructional excellence and faith formation.
- Partners with the Principal in coordinating schedules and student supervision.
- Contributes to the school's strategic planning process, works in partnership with the School Advisory Board, and attends Board meetings as a member of the administrative team.

- Maintains a visible and consistent presence in classrooms, hallways, campus spaces, and school events.
- Is accessible and available to students, faculty, families, and colleagues.
- Connects students, families, and faculty with appropriate resources and support services.
- Pursues ongoing professional and spiritual growth through reading, coursework, conferences, and professional engagement.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the Principal.
The Ideal Candidate
- Is a practicing Catholic who embraces and lives the faith, understanding that educational leadership is both a ministry and a vocation.
- Demonstrates a wholehearted commitment to Catholic education and the formation of the whole child in truth, unity, and love.
- Holds a Master's degree in Education, Educational Leadership, or a related field.
- Has successful classroom teaching experience at the elementary level, with a strong command of elementary curriculum and instructional practice.
- Possesses deep knowledge of elementary curriculum, scope and sequence development, and the instructional structures that support young learners, with a particular appreciation for the Catholic intellectual Tradition as applied to elementary education.
- Understands education as ordered to Truth, Beauty, and Goodness, and brings both the conviction and the practical knowledge to help develop a school's curriculum in that direction.
- Demonstrates outstanding communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Has a genuine love for elementary-age students and a deep belief in the importance of these foundational years.
- Demonstrates the organizational ability and instructional vision to build and sustain a strong, coherent elementary program.
- Brings a collaborative spirit and thrives as a partner within a close-knit administrative team.

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a Catholic school setting, particularly one with a strong mission focus.
- Openness to and interest in the Catholic intellectual tradition and its application to elementary curriculum and pedagogy.
- Experience in a mission-driven Catholic school environment where faith and academic formation are deeply integrated.
- Background in early childhood or elementary literacy and mathematics instruction.
- Prior formal experience in school administration, instructional coaching, or curriculum leadership.
- Familiarity with MTSS frameworks, data-driven instructional practices, and standards-based curriculum design.
- Massachusetts educator licensure in teaching or administration.
