Job Summary
The FOCUS Childcare Attendant provides a safe, welcoming, and nurturing environment for children while their parents or guardians participate in FOCUS Bible studies, small groups, and other parish faith formation activities. This position is responsible for supervising children, facilitating age-appropriate activities, and ensuring the safety and well-being of all children in their care. The Childcare Attendant supports the parish's mission of evangelization by creating a positive and caring environment that allows parents to fully participate in faith formation opportunities.
Job Responsibilities
- Supervise children during scheduled FOCUS Bible studies, small groups, and other approved parish ministry events.
- Provide a safe, caring, and engaging environment for children of various ages.
- Plan and lead age-appropriate activities, including reading, coloring, crafts, games, and supervised free play.
- Foster a welcoming atmosphere by treating each child with kindness, patience, and respect.
- Ensure the safety and well-being of all children by maintaining appropriate supervision at all times.
- Follow all parish and diocesan Safe Environment policies, procedures, and child protection requirements.
- Maintain accurate attendance records and ensure children are released only to their authorized parent or guardian.
- Respond appropriately to minor incidents and immediately notify parents and the ministry leader of any injuries, illnesses, accidents, or behavioral concerns.
- Keep childcare areas clean, organized, sanitized, and free of hazards before, during, and after each session.
- Assist with the setup, organization, and cleanup of childcare supplies, toys, and activity spaces.
- Communicate professionally and courteously with parents, volunteers, ministry leaders, and parish staff.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Job Requirements
- Must be at least 16 years of age (or the minimum age established by the parish or diocese).
- Experience caring for children through babysitting, childcare, volunteer work, or similar experience is preferred.
- Ability to interact positively with children of various ages in a patient, caring, and engaging manner.
- Dependable, punctual, responsible, and able to work independently with minimal supervision.
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Commitment to maintaining confidentiality, professionalism, and a welcoming environment.
- Supportive of the mission and values of the Catholic Church.
